Rochester's City Newspaper has published an interview with David Nachbar. He answers questions about why he's running for Congress rather than County Executive, why Randy Kuhl shouldn't be re-elected, and about endorsements. Here's his take on endorsements:
I have not asked any committee within the 29th District for endorsements. I think it's silly.
Nachbar says that he's the only candidate in the race "who understands what it's like to create jobs. The other candidates are government employees and have been that way."

Yeah, really silly. Especially when you don’t stand a chance in hell of getting the endorsements. Go on, dude. Keep thumbing your nose at party loyalists. Just remember, Republicans don’t vote in the primary.
I was wondering if he knows who votes in the primary, and also when it occurs. He thinks he has 17 months. It's more like 7.
Nachbar the candidate of the people? HAHAHAHA. I thought that his response to the democratic committees was equally interesting, call all of them silly. Brilliant
Yes, and he said he was the candidate of the people versus the candidate of the "machine". The notion that there's any kind of machine politics in the 29th is beyond laughable. Democrats are lucky if they can even field candidates in a lot of races.
Democrats have been gaining ground in the 29th recently. Steuben County only has two cities, both with Democrat mayors. Not a machine - yet
It's a weak interview for sure. I guess we'll find out which PR firm to play for his poor preparation when the next round of filings hit in early July.
What I liked was his repeated mantra of "being the only candidate who knows how to create jobs". In his previous B&L position, I understand he was in charge of outsourcing to China.
So I guess he does have expertise in creating jobs-- overseas.
I find it laughable that Nachbar thinks he is the candidate of the people- where and when has he met any of the people? What parade, community events, house parties? I haven't seen or heard him anywhere. Massa's views and stands are well known as he has been meeting with the "People" for a long time.
The way that you cut that quote is ridiculous. His point was that it is ridiculous for these committees to throw out endorsements before they knew the candidate. Of course, you weren't going to give him a chance no matter what, and it isn't the least bit surprising that you've done nothing more than set up a forum for more Nachbar bashing. I don't work for a PR firm, I'm just a small town attorney, a democrat- and I voted for Massa last time, but this time I'd like to vote for someone who could actually win. Massa will not win. You guys may get him the nomination, but he will never beat Kuhl. You see the close race as a sign that Massa could win, when what it really says is that a democrat could win, a better candidate. Nachbar could pull the independent voters and some republicans- that's a fact. Massa can't and won't. I understand your loyalty and am certain you are all good people, but I won't fall prey to your agenda. Nothing Nachbar says will be met with an open mind. This whole "overseas" thing, it's such a slogan, a knock created by campaign spinsters. Are you saying that B & L doesn't create jobs right here and Nachbar has no part in that? If he is such an elitist then why would he bother running for congress? For the money? Talk about mantras- you all have yours down and it is just plain sickening. It seems that a person who runs for office is automatically opening himself up to the same kind of attacks people feel free to lay upon celebrities and I'm sure they are ready for that, but I find it grotesque. I'm certain Massa is a good man and is running because he thinks the system can work better. Nowhere do you see his integrity attacked the way your mob attacks Nachbar. I called Nachbar's campaign, myself. I spoke with his one employee at this point and after five minutes he called me back and we talked issues. I would bet not one of you have even tried this, especially the person or persons who write this blog.
I did cut off the "silly" quote, simply because the rest of the quote is at best a half-truth. Nachbar did meet with other committees in 2006. He missed the one committee meeting he did schedule in 2007, and some committees that tried to contact him were unable to do so. Nachbar clearly has an issue with the Democratic committees in the area. He could have just owned up to that, saying something like "I have a lot of work to do", but instead he calls the endorsements "silly".
You make a number of assertions about Nachbar's ability to garner votes. I've dealt with that in another post. However, you treat it as if it's self-evident. It's anything but.
Are you saying that B & L doesn't create jobs right here and Nachbar has no part in that? No, that was a commenter, but like most multinationals, the bulk of B&L's jobs are overseas and non-union.
If he is such an elitist then why would he bother running for congress? For the money? I have no idea, but just because he's in no need of money doesn't mean that his motives for running are automatically pure.
Nobody's attacked Nachbar's integrity. We've just questioned his suitability as a candidate. As a lawyer, you ought to recognize the difference.
As for calling Nachbar's campaign, read this blog. I haven't called anyone's campaign. I attend public events and press events open to bloggers.
